Dick Griggs is the embodiment of 'the good Club member'. He has served the Club in a number of capacities and has always been ready to lend a hand to help things run smoothly. He has played cricket for Bexley for many years, usually in the lower Xl’s, always being ready to fill a vacancy in a team or act as umpire if necessary.
In the 1970s he ran the Colts. Although often single handed he was very successful. one of his teams reaching the National Finals of the NCA Under 15 competition (1977). Several players encouraged by him - notably Rajesh and Suresh Sharma, Mark Alexander and Richard Simons, went on to become leading members of the 1st Xl. Rajesh Sharma subsequently became a professional with Derbyshire.
He continues to serve the Club as Fixture Secretary. Outside the Club he is a man of many parts. He is a member of M.C.C, a Liveryman of the Company of Gold and Silver Wire Drawers, and a Freeman of the City of London. Among his other accomplishments, Dick is an expert gardener and has won many cups and prizes at shows.
